ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Missouri lawmakers reacted overnight to news of U.S. Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham's death.

One came from U.S. Senator for Missouri Josh Hawley’s X account, posted at 8:14 am on Sunday, July 12.

"I’m shocked to hear of the loss of my colleague and friend, Lindsey Graham. Lindsey loved this country, loved South Carolina, and loved a good fight," Hawley wrote. "He was a champion for free speech against the giant tech companies and a great advocate for constitutionalist judges. Erin & I remember his family in prayer."

Another came from Eric Schmitt, another U.S. Senator for Missouri, who posted on his X at 9:09 am this morning.

"I’m waking up like everyone else this morning to the news of Lindsey Graham’s sudden passing," he wrote.

"Jaime and I are truly saddened by the news. Lindsey was a champion for the people of South Carolina. Anyone who ever knew him has lots of fond memories and great stories. Some of mine were on the golf course with him — a place where you can learn a lot about somebody and get to know them."

Schmitt concluded the post with, "We’d agree on things. We’d disagree on things. But no matter what, we had a lot of laughs. He was also unquestionably the life of any dinner with colleagues. He was one of kind. I’m praying for him, his friends and family during this unbelievably hard time."

The final one came from Congressman Sam Graves, who posted his condolences to Graham's family on Facebook.

"Senator Lindsey Graham was a tremendous public servant, and I am saddened to learn of his passing. His leadership and passion for American freedom will be missed."
