Hunt clarifies future home of Chiefs Training Camp

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- While Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan said at the opening of the Chiefs Training Camp press conference on Wednesday that the team has committed to St. Joseph for five more years, owner Clark Hunt clarified the deadline Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the team announced the hiring of local global architectural design firm Populous.

The firm will act as the lead design architect for the club's new practice facility and headquarters in Olathe, Kansas.

Clark told media after practice on Thursday that the team intends to design the practice facility with the ability to host training camp. However, despite an expected completion date of the site by 2031, it doesn't mean the team will abandon Missouri Western State University immediately.

The son of the team founder said the choice is up to whoever is leading the team whenever it is time.

"Ultimately, the decision on where we have training camp is going to be up to the head coach of the team," Clark said. "I certainly hope it's still Andy (Reid) at that point. But, if it's a new coach, the new coach will have a big saying in that as well."

In the release about the team's future locations, the Chiefs also shared that Populous will support the master plan design of the on-site mixed-use development, focusing on the layout, development phasing, transportation and pedestrian circulation needs, as well as the visitor experience.
