Northwest Football looking to keep win streak alive against Missouri Southern

MARYVILLE, Mo. (KQTV) -- Northwest Missouri State University Football is hosting the Missouri Southern Lions on Saturday, Sept. 19, and is looking to keep a piece of history going.

The No. 7-ranked Bearcats are currently on a 30-game win streak against the Lions. The last time the Lions beat the Bearcats was 1994. This current win streak is the fourth-longest streak in NCAA Division II history.

Northwest Head Coach John McMenamin isn't giving the win streak much thought heading into this year's matchup.

"I just think it's another game," said McMenamin. "We don't really look at it. It's probably more in the media than anything. I don't think we get too caught up in that."

Bearcat Senior Offensive Lineman Harrison Merriman agreed with his coach's sentiments.

"I had no clue it was 30 years," said Merriman. "That's kind of something we don't really think about going into the week. This is a new team. You can't really base how you think you are and how you think another team is on years past."

Northwest will be hosting Family Weekend when Missouri Southern comes to Maryville. Kickoff for the game is set for 1:30 p.m.
