MSHP reports 9 traffic fatalities, 3 drownings over 4th of July weekend

MISSOURI (KQTV) -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol provided its preliminary statistics following the 4th of July holiday counting period.

The counting period began at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 2 and continued through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 5.

MSHP said a total of nine people died and 113 were injured in 235 traffic crashes during the counting period. Additionally, the patrol made 125 DWI stops.

MSHP also said there were three drownings, three crashes and three injuries on the water. The patrol made nine BWI stops.

According to MSHP, the Patrol investigated 273 traffic crashes, resulting in 9 fatalities and 138 injuries, during the 2025 counting period.

In 2025 statewide, 13 people died and 414 were injured in 993 vehicle crashes. 11 boating crashes were investigated throughout Missouri.

MSHP said the preliminary statistics could change if a later death occurs or if other departments send in other reports of fatal traffic crashes from over the weekend.
