St. Joseph Mustangs pick up first victory of the season in home win over Carroll

(ST. JOSEPH, MO) - The St. Joseph Mustangs baseball team collected its first victory of the 2026 season Friday night in a 6-2 home win over the Carroll Merchants.

Micah Kobuszewski, a member of the MoWest Griffons, finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Mustangs, followed by another Griffon, Seth Winkler who was 1-for-4 with 1 RBI. Benton High School alum Chris Coy was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Lawson High School alum Lane Chapman started on the mound for St. Joseph and pitched a commanding game for the most part. In seven innings pitched, Chapman struck out eight batters while only giving up two hits and two runs.

The Mustangs improve to 1-1 on the season and next host the Ban Johnson Raiders on Saturday, May 30th at 7 pm at Phil Welch Stadium.
