St. Joseph Mustangs lose late lead and fall to Carroll Merchants at home

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The St. Joseph Mustangs had a 6 run inning in the 4th to lead the Carroll Merchants 7-4. But then Carroll 7 runs the next 4 innings to go on and take down St. Joseph, 11-9. The bases were loaded in the 9th inning but the Mustangs couldn't close the gap.

Bishop LeBlond and Northwest Bearcat alum Frank Gall finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBI for the Mustangs, including a 3-run home run in the 4th inning. Carson Schrack finished 2-for-6 with 3 RBI, Tyler Gundlefinger finished 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and Lafayette alum Jayden Little finished 3-for-6 with 1 RBI.

Landon Jaynes got the start on the mound for the Mustangs, he finished with 11 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched but gave up 10 hits and 6 runs.

On a positive note, Jacob Walter, a young man from Maryville who just recovered from heart transplant surgery threw out the first pitch before the game. Walter was gifted a jersey and hat from the team and also posed with the Mustangs for a team photo.

St. Joseph drops to 21-14 on the season and 18-13 in MINK League Conference play. The Mustangs will re-match the Merchants on Saturday, July 18th at 7 pm.
