Benton boys hoops roll Maryville, win Class 4 District 16 Championship for second straight year

(ST. JOSEPH, MO) - The Benton High School boys basketball team continues to roll through opponents, as the Cardinals defeat Maryville 68-34 to become back-to-back Class 4 District 16 Champions.

Seniors Lincoln Goodwin and Mach Mayom both had 14 points, followed by junior Xavier Warner with 9 and junior Jason Simmons with 8 points. For Maryville, senior Miles Poynter led the team with 11 points followed by junior Luke Allen with 8.

"Five seniors want to get back to a Final Four and bring the city a state championship," Goodwin said.

"Last time feeling playing on this court. Get the dub and get ready to move on," said Mayom. "Hopefully we can achieve something bigger. It feels great right now but the job isn't done."

"We set the goal at the beginning of the year. It's to reach to that state title game and win a state championship," said Benton head coach Jared Boone. "We know we have to get there by doing it one game at a time."

Benton improves to 27-1 on the season and Maryville ends the year 19-9.

Benton now will play Smithville in the Class 4 State Sectionals on Tuesday, March 10th at 6 pm at Staley High School.
