KQ2 Pigskin Preview: Cyclones look to tear through their competitors

WATHENA, Kan. (KQTV) -- The Riverside Cyclones look to continue their winning ways following the departure of last year's big senior class.

That senior class helped lead the Cyclones to an 8-3 record to finish out the 2025 season.

But despite the numbers that left their shoulder pads in the locker room, Head Coach Bryce Paden trusts that his varsity squad can carry over last year's success.

"We had a great summer with practices and weight room sessions," Paden said. "We have some guys that went 6-1 in JV last year, and they're working their way up and waiting for their time."

The attitude in the Riverside's locker room matches their motivation to compete for the season.

"I feel like this summer was probably one of the best we've had with people getting in the weight room and getting after it every day," Senior Linebacker Luke Benitz said. "We got a good group of guys; everybody works as a unit."

One of the new-coming starters for the Cyclone offense is Junior Quarterback Kobe Koehler.

Koehler has had time to prepare for this season after watching former QB1, Beckham Griffin.

"Getting to sit behind our former quarterback for two years helped me learn a lot and focus in on reading the defense and making the right reads," Koehler said.

The Cyclones will kick off their season Friday by competing against Doniphan West and Rossville in the Highland Community College Football Jamboree at 6:30 p.m.

The following Friday, they will take the field against the Jefferson County North Chargers.
