Lathrop High School softball edges out West Platte on the road

WESTON, Mo. (KQTV) - The Lathrop High School softball team took down West Platte on the road in a high scoring back-and-forth affair, 14-12 Thursday night.

Lathrop racked up a whopping 17 hits. Sophomore Jade Hadley finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Senior and Virginia Tech commit Jacie Kassanavoid was 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI and a 2-run home run.

For West Platte, sophomore Maddie Cline and senior Brook Allison led the way as they both finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI. Senior Maizie French was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.

The win is Lathrop's 11th in a row, the Lady Mules improve to 13-2 on the season.

"We did pretty good each inning. We battled back. West Platte's a good team, and I thought our energy was up the whole game, so I think that's what got us to win tonight," said Kassanavoid. "All of us put in extra effort outside of practices, outside of games, our bats are also equally good, even better. So we knew we were gonna get a high scoring game tonight."

"I like that they kept coming out. Their bats were hot the entire night. Didn't give up. West Platte's a good team. I liked how we showed up. We had lots of energy throughout the night, worked together and got it done," said Lathrop head coach Ashley Hutchcraft. "Truly there's not a super weak spot in our lineup. Like everyone can just hit the ball. I'm very grateful for our six right now."

Lathrop next hosts South Harrison on Monday, September 21st at 5 pm. West Platte drops to 4-6 on the season and next plays in the Park Hill South Tournament beginning on Friday, September 18th against William Chrisman and Boonville.
