Savannah High School girls tennis beats Maryville for 5th straight District Championship title

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - Rivals Maryville and Savannah High School girls tennis played each other for the Class 1 District 8 Championship Wednesday afternoon. The ladies were able to play a few matches outside at the Noyes Tennis Courts before the rain pushed the rest to be played at the Genesis Health Club.

Savannah ended up winning the District Championship 5-1. It's the 5th straight district title win for the Savages.

"The girls just like to do the work. They come, they put in the work every day, and they work outside of practice and in the summer and winter and they just keep going," said Savannah head coach Kelly Jones.

Savannah is sending the pairs team of junior Scarlet Jones and sophomore Lucy Bodenhausen to individual state tennis next weekend in Springfield.

"I'm really excited because this is our first year actually playing together and I feel like we really just clicked from the start," said Jones.

"I think we just play really good together on the court. We are each other's weaknesses," said Bodenhausen. "We just pick each other up and I think that's all that it takes to get to state."

Individual state tennis is October 22nd through 24th in Springfield in the Cooper Tennis Complex. State Team Tennis is the 29th and 30th. Savannah as a team plays Pembroke Hill in the Class 1 State Quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 20th.
