SAVANNAH, Mo. (KQTV) - In a battle of 7-0 teams, the Savannah High School football team, the #2 ranked team in class 4, took down rival Maryville, the #2 ranked team in class 3, 40-21 Friday night.

It's the third straight season Savannah has defeated Maryville and came home with the Highway 71 Trophy. Savannah clinches the Midland Empire Conference title as well with the victory.

"Awesome feeling. It's something we look forward to every year," said Savannah junior quarterback Caylor Schrick. "We're working on the calendar, but it's just another step towards that state championship. We have so many, so many obstacles in the way, so it's just another step. It's another way to get better is playing teams like this."

"It's awesome. I'm so happy for our community. They were saving seats all week. The hill was full. It was Military Appreciation night. I wanted our boys to just bring this thing home again for our town and it's awesome," said Savannah head coach Anthony Hays. "Great rivalry, one of the best in Missouri. I'm glad we had a lot of people here to experience it."

Savannah improves to 8-0 on the season, the Savages will finish the regular season by hosting Excelsior Springs on Friday, October 23rd at 7 pm.

Maryville drops to 7-1 and will host Odessa to finish out the regular season on the 23rd at 7 pm.
