Mid-Buchanan High School softball takes care of Lathrop, wins school’s sixth straight District Championship

LATHROP, Mo. (KQTV) - The 2 seed Mid-Buchanan High School softball team roared back to defeat 1 seed Lathrop 10-7 to win the Class 2 District 7 Championship. It's Mid-Buchanan's 6th straight season with a district title win.

The Lady Dragons fell behind 5-2 after the third inning, but then scored 3 runs in the 4th to tie it and then scored 5 in the final 2 innings to seal the win.

Junior Zuzu Kountz was 2-for-5 at the plate with 1 RBI, senior Ella Lisenbee was 1-for-3 with 1 RBI, junior Janika Seckel was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI, and junior Paisley Meyer was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI for Mid-Buchanan.

Senior Dru Pearson pitched 5.1 innings and had 6 strikeouts while giving up 2 hits and 4 runs for the Lady Dragons.

"We came in the 2 seed so we knew we were going to have to do some work. We knew we were going to have to earn it. We were just going to have to come out and work for it," said Kountz. "So we practiced this whole week. We already faced their pitcher, so we knew what we were going to get. So we came in with that and then Regan (Nash-Archdekin) really prepared us with their lineup. She knew what they were hitting well and what they weren't hitting well."

"It's very exciting. We work hard every single year. We never take time off at practice, we never take time off plays. We're always go go go and we just work very hard and we work as a team together," said Pearson.

"We had such a great culture me coming into it and it was my goal to just build on that culture and just have the girls show up every day wanting to get to this situation right here. Not wanting anything less," said Mid-Buchanan head coach Regan Nash-Archdekin. "I have such a special group of kids and they're just great people too."

For Lathrop, junior Peyton Cobb and sophomore Tylie Pritchett both finished 1-for-4 with 1 RBI, and juniors Jolene Ashcraft and Rheagan Hall were both 1-for-3 with 1 RBI. Senior and Virginia Tech commit Jacie Kassanavoid was 0-for-3 at the plate

Mid-Buchanan improves to 20-6 on the season and will next play at Lone Jack on Saturday, October 24th in the Class 2 State Quarterfinals with the winner advancing to state in Springfield on October 30th.

Lathrop finishes the season with an 18-5 record.
