Salvador Perez passes George Brett to become the Kansas City Royals’ all-time home run hitter

DETROIT, Mi. (KQTV) - A long time Kansas City Royals record was broken in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday as 36 year old catcher Salvador Perez passed Royals legend George Brett in most home runs hit in Royals history with 318.

Perez broke the record in the 7th inning in a road game against the Detroit Tigers. It was a 401 foot solo bomb to tie the game at 2 at that point, the Royals went on to win, 3-2.

Perez is the third active player to own his current team’s all-time home run record, joining Mike Trout (422 with the Angels) and Manny Machado (216 with the Padres).

"It's unbelievable. A lot of emotion right now. I thank god for everything, my family, my mom, my wife, my kids and all the people who helped me," said Perez. Without them, I don't make it this far into my career. Kansas City is my second home."

The Royals improve to 44-62 on the season with the win. Game 4 of the series with the Roiyals and Tigers is on Sunday, July 26th at 12:10 am.
