Kansas City Royals unveil new updates on design of new downtown stadium

POPULOUS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KQTV) - The Kansas City Royals unveiled new updates on Thursday for the design of their new downtown stadium targeted to open in the 2030 MLB season.

The stadium will have approximately 34,000 seats and 3,000 standing room only spots. For the stadium, 80% of the season will be between the two foul poles and 65% of the seating will be shaded by the canopy.

The new park will have two continuous 360-degree concourses, 4 seating decks and 50 unique fan experiences planned throughout the ball park.

The Royals released a press release on the team's new planned stadium:

The new Royals ballpark is distinctly Kansas City, drawing inspiration from the city’s character, landscape and architectural heritage. Fitting comfortably within the existing limestone bluff, its exterior architecture embraces elements that have defined Kansas City’s landmarks for decades, Municipal Auditorium, Union Station and Liberty Memorial.

The Crown Center site connects the Royals to an established downtown destination, provides the scale to build a true neighborhood around baseball and brings Hallmark alongside the Royals as a generational, KC-born partner. Rather than creating a standalone destination, the ballpark builds on a place already cherished by the city, connecting the Royals’ identity to Kansas City’s skyline, streets, boulevards, parks and surrounding neighborhoods.

The site and design create an authentic, timeless and memorable home for Royals fans that could only exist here.

The seating bowl is one of the most intimate seating bowls in all of Major League Baseball, with unprecedented proximity that will give fans a stronger connection to what’s happening on the field.

The ballpark will feature approximately 34,000 seats with space for approximately 3,000 standing-room-only spots.

The ballpark pairs the tradition of open-air baseball with a canopy designed specifically for Kansas City weather. The lightweight canopy is designed to shade approximately 65% of seating to improve fan comfort during late-summer games.

The outfield will be organized around the Right Field Entertainment Building and Left Field Royals Headquarters Building, connecting to the ballpark through two continuous
360-degree concourses.

Immersive fan experiences bring fans closer to the game, including a reimagined Little K, CrownVision and fountain seating.

Located in the heart of Kansas City, the ballpark creates a new way for the community to experience Royals baseball and downtown.

With connections to local transportation, including Union Station and the KC Streetcar, the ballpark becomes part of the city with improved walkability and downtown connectivity.

Parking garages and premium entries will be located primarily along the south and west sides of the ballpark, with potential surface parking south and west of the site.

The 365-day event plaza will create a year-round destination accommodating concerts, festivals, corporate functions, social events and other uses
