KQ2 Sports’ sit down interview with first year player and MoWest alum, Micah Kobuszewski

BRETT KENNEDY - "Joined with me now is first year Saint Joseph Mustang baseball player Micah Kobuszewski. Thanks for joining me, man."

MICAH KOBUSEWSKI - "Yeah, man, it's good to be here. Good to be in St. Joe for the summer, and it should be fun."

KENNEDY: "I bet you're excited, man. Now, talk to me about your last name. My question to you is, have you ever met anybody that's pronounced it correctly the first time?"

KOBUSEWSKI: "Being in a lot of road games in baseball, always hearing the lineups, it's always a fun job to listen to see if people pronounce it correctly, to see if the other announcer does their homework. So it is a surprise every time I hear it pronounced correctly. It's Polish and everybody who seems to know the name has to tell me they know where it's from too. I've heard people add syllables to it. I've heard people take away. Half the time, people just say Micah K. They look at it and decide they don't want to even give it a try. I get Mike Wazowski every once in a while. I get a little bit of everything."

KENNEDY: "How's it been your first year here with the Saint Joseph Mustangs? How's it been going so far for you?"

KOBUSEWSKI: "I felt pretty good. A lot of new guys only have one teammate from Missouri Western here. But had played against or with a lot of the guyS on the team, and it's been good to get to know them. Get to experience the crowd we get here and the atmosphere in general. It's been fun."

"Talk to me about that crowd and just playing here at Phil Welch. I'm sure you've heard about all the history here. What's that been like playing here?"

KOBUSEWSKI: "So I heard about it ahead of time and having not been out to a game before, I was excited to see it for the first time and it was fun, walking up to the plate and hearing people you don't know, call your name, cheering for you, asking for autographs, all of that. So it's been fun."

KENNEDY: "Now, you talked about your MoWest teammate on the team here, Seth Winkler with the Mustangs. What's it been like kind of sharing this experience with him and just going through it the first time together?"

KOBUSEWSKI: "We put in a lot of work, a lot of hours in this last year, and it's brought us close together and we're both pretty excited to get out here. It's been nice to have somebody that's been there, done that with me. I've been hitting behind him in the lineup some of the days and just continuing what we've already done for a year."

KENNEDY: "Talk to me about your experience with the Griffins and MoWest, first winning record since 2018. Practically a brand new roster for you guys. New head coach, Michael Keeran. Talk to me about last season and how it went for you guys at MoWest?"

KOBUSEWSKI: "Coach Keeran, that whole staff, like you said, it was brand new. A lot of them taking chances on a bunch of guys, myself included, coming in from the portal, Seth Winkler as well. There was a lot of things to prove. There was a lot of doubts, I'm sure from around the MIAA, the rest of the town, but It was a bit of an up and down year. I think, uh, toward the end, we found some momentum. We beat some good teams, and even though I won't be there to continue it, that Winkler and some other guys hopefully build something going forward."
