KQ2 Sports’ sit down interview with St. Joseph Mustangs outfielder Frank Gall

BRETT KENNEDY: "How's it going, man? How are things going in your final year here with the Mustangs?"

FRANK GALL: "Oh, doing great. Just getting ready for playoff time here, and we got a surprisingly cool. Beautiful day today, so loving it."

KENNEDY: "Talk about this team's mindset kind of going into the playoffs here, the final week of the regular season. What's this team feeling like right now going into the postseason?"

GALL: "We feel good. We still feel like we have our best ball yet to come. So we're just going to keep working, keep sticking to our plans, stick to our process, and keep trying to get better every day. That's really the goal."

KENNEDY: "What would it mean to win a record 11th MINK League Championship with this team your final year here?"  

GALL: "Oh, it would mean the world to me. No better way to close off my college career than to win another MINK ship. I'd love it."

KENNEDY: "You've had a great run hitting-wise at Northwest Missouri State, and it's translated over to the Mustangs here this summer. What's been working for you at the plate the last couple of months?"

GALL: "I started off this Summer are a little rough, but honestly, me and Brayden Luikart always talk about it, just trying to be early and just drive the ball. That's all we've been talking about and we all help each other out. Seeing him and seeing all these other guys hit every day helps me a lot and just trying to be early. That's really what's been helping me."

KENNEDY: "Now, if you don't mind me asking kind of an odd question, but you'll know why here in a sec, how old are you?"

GALL: "I am 25 years old."

KENNEDY: "That being said, I heard a rumor that they call you 'Unc' on the team. Is this true?"

GALL: "At Northwest, yes. I've heard it a few times around here, but not so much."

KENNEDY: "You being the old wily veteran here on the Mustangs, what's that been like, and what kind of advice have you given to these younger guys?"

GALL: "It's a lot of fun. Some of these guys have struggled and stuff, and they come to me for advice, and I was just telling them to keep working. The only way you're going to get better is by working hard. That's what made me successful was just putting in extra time outside of practice and getting work on your own. So that's really what I preached to the younger guys so far."

KENNEDY: "You have another nickname too, "the 'Gallfather.' Talk to me about that. Did you come up with that yourself?"

GALL: "Honestly, I think it was just one of the interns last year came up with it and they ran with it a lot this summer. Interesting nickname. I don't mind it. It's cool."

KENNEDY: "I was just going to ask, what's your thoughts on it?"  

GALL: "It's cool. I love The Sopranos. My roommate and I at Northwest, we watched that show this year, so I always just think of The Sopranos when I see that picture."

KENNEDY: "Have you seen The Godfather movie?"

GALL: "Yeah, I actually have. It's one of my dad's favorite movies. I had to watch it actually a couple of years ago though, pretty recently. I enjoyed it. It's kind of hard to watch with the quality nowadays, but it's a good movie."

KENNEDY: "You joined this team about a month into the season. How much fun has this team had this year? A lot of new guys, kind of a young squad this year. Talk to me about this group and how much fun you guys have had this year?

GALL: "We've had a lot of fun. It's fun getting to know the younger new guys and we've all bonded pretty well. I think we've grown as a group a lot this year and I'm excited to see where it takes us."

KENNEDY: "Kind of a tougher season for you guys. It's loaded there at the top of the MINK League with Clarinda, with Carroll and Joplin. What's it gonna take for you guys to kind of get through these playoffs here?"

GALL: "I would say we just need to throw strikes and play clean defense. I think everything else will work out if we do those two things for sure."
