Tara Horn attended Missouri Western State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting.

In 2001, she started in the real estate industry as an escrow officer, then transitioned into a licensed real estate agent for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Stein and Summers Real Estate in 2011.

Horn became the Buchanan County Auditor in 2015 and is preparing to serve her fourth term at the Buchanan County Courthouse.
