Tracking morning rain & evening severe storms

Good morning and happy Monday! Out the door this morning, scattered showers and thunderstorms are wrapping up after an active weekend, and we’re looking at another active start to the week.

Today is a KQ2 Action Day as we continue to track the potential for strong to severe storms later this evening into early Tuesday morning.

Temperatures today will climb back into the middle 80s before a boundary moves through and brings the chance for strong storms beginning later this evening and continuing through the overnight hours across northwest Missouri.

Atchison County and Holt County are under a Level 4 out of 5 severe weather risk, while the rest of the viewing area remains under a Level 3 out of 5 risk.

All hazards are possible, with flash flooding appearing to be one of the main concerns — especially in low-lying areas that have already experienced flooding from weekend rainfall. A few spin-up tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds will also be possible this evening.

Behind this system, temperatures will cool back into the upper 60s through Thursday before warming back into the 70s and 80s heading into the weekend.

As we head into the evening hours tonight, be sure to download the KQ2 Storm Tracker Weather App so you can stay up to date with the latest alerts based on your location.
