Tracking a hot and humid Thursday, slight chance t-storms

July heat and humidity will continue across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through the rest of the work week and likely intensify this weekend. Aside from a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, dry skies and sunshine will offer little to no relief from the summer scorcher. Partly to mostly sunny skies and upper 80s Wednesday afternoon will lead into a warm and dry night, with lows falling to near 70 degrees, mostly clear skies and light winds. Mostly sunny skies early Thursday morning will give way to partly cloudy conditions and a 20% to 30% chance of isolated t-storms for the afternoon. Highs will reach the low 90s with peak heat index values in the mid to upper 90s. Temperatures are expected to climb well into the mid to upper 90s this weekend with more sunshine and humid air sticking around, potentially leading to triple digit heat indices for several days in a row.
