ACTION ALERT WEATHER DAY: High winds, cold air, snow squalls Sunday evening

A strong low-pressure system is tracking across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas Sunday bringing high winds, cold air, and light rain changing to snow. An extended period of high winds could lead to scattered power outages. While light snow accumulations of less than 2 inches are expected, periods of blowing snow will lead to reduced visibility and difficult travel conditions, especially on Sunday evening. Temperatures will also drop sharply, with wind chills falling several degrees below zero by early Monday morning. 

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all of Northwest Missouri and much of Northeast Kansas from 9 AM Sunday through 1 AM Monday. Light snow accumulations of a dusting to 2 inches are possible north of the I-70 corridor. Slightly higher accumulations are more likely along and north of the Iowa border where 2–4 inches of snow is anticipated. Blowing snow could lead to reduced visibility and minor accumulations my result in slick roads Sunday evening and overnight.

High winds Sunday and Sunday night could gust up to 60 mph at times, resulting in scattered power outages due to falling tree branches. Unsecured loose objects such as lawn furniture and garbage bins could also be blown around. 

A High Wind Warning has been issued across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas from 9 AM Sunday to 1 AM Monday. A Wind Advisory will go into effect for the same areas from 1 AM to 12 PM Monday. 

A significant drop in temperature will take place with lows falling well into the teens and even single digits by early Monday morning while wind chills plunge several degrees below zero.
