Tracking a mild Monday and Tuesday t-storms

Cooler and less humid weather is expected Monday before storms return late Monday night into Tuesday.

Patchy fog is possible Monday morning, especially near low-lying areas and the Missouri River, but conditions will improve through the morning. Highs will reach the middle 80s with lower humidity and mostly dry conditions.

Rain and thunderstorms will return late Monday night into early Tuesday morning as a storm system moves southeast toward Missouri. A second round of stronger storms could develop Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a Slight Risk, or Level 2 out of 5, for severe weather Tuesday. All severe hazards are possible, including damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado.

The biggest uncertainty is how the morning storms affect the afternoon setup. Storms could limit daytime heating or leave behind boundaries that become a focus for additional severe storms. How much sunshine and instability develop Tuesday will also determine the strength and timing of the afternoon threat.

For now, late Tuesday morning through Tuesday night is the timeframe to watch, with additional storms potentially developing or strengthening Tuesday evening and overnight.

Cooler and less humid conditions return Wednesday and Thursday.
