Tracking the return of heat and humidity

Abigail McCluskey

Good morning and happy Thursday! Heading out the door this morning, it is a foggy and warm start across the area. Dense fog is in place, especially for areas closer to the Missouri-Iowa border, with visibility becoming problematic for the morning commute. Take it slow out there this morning!

I’m also watching for hot and humid conditions to continue throughout the day today, with temperatures climbing back into the upper 80s and heat index values approaching the upper 90s. Winds will remain fairly calm today, which will make the air feel extra thick and soupy.

Friday will be our second-to-last day of the heat, with temperatures climbing back into the upper 90s under mostly sunny to partly sunny skies.

Then, a big change arrives this weekend. Rain chances return Saturday, with temperatures dropping into the mid-80s. We’ll continue to cool down with additional rain chances Sunday and into early next week, with temperatures falling into the middle and lower 70s—just in time for the first day of fall!
