Tracking summer-like heat & Tuesday T-storms

Abigail McCluskey

Out the door this morning, temperatures are starting in the 70s with windy conditions and gusts reaching the upper 20s. Winds will remain strong throughout the day, with gusts potentially reaching 30–35 mph. Temperatures will continue to climb into the upper 80s to lower 90s, bringing another day of summer-like heat and the potential for record-breaking temperatures!

Tuesday will bring another warm day, with highs in the upper 80s, before a cold front moves through around midday. This front will bring increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday evening and overnight. Some storms could be strong to severe, and portions of northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas are currently under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather. The main threats we’re watching are large hail and damaging winds.

Rain chances could linger into Wednesday and Thursday as cooler temperatures settle in. Highs will drop into the low 70s through Thursday, followed by the low 60s Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will rebound into the 70s by Sunday, bringing more seasonable fall weather to the region!
