Tracking Tuesday t-storms & cooler temps

Abigail McCluskey

Good morning, and happy Tuesday!

Temperatures are a bit cooler to start this morning, with readings in the 60s instead of the 70s we experienced yesterday. A cold front continues to push south, but cooler air will be slow to arrive behind it. We likely won't feel the full effects of the cooler air until Wednesday. In the meantime, temperatures will climb back into the 80s this afternoon.

A weather system will bring a chance for isolated thunderstorms later today, with storms potentially developing during the evening commute and continuing into the overnight hours. Strong to severe storms are possible, with a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk in place. The primary threats include damaging wind gusts and hail up to quarter size. Locally heavy rainfall is also possible.

The main timeframe we're watching for strong to severe storms is approximately 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Rain chances will continue throughout Wednesday and into Thursday as additional rounds of showers and storms move through the region. Highs will remain in the 70s Wednesday and Thursday before cooler temperatures arrive Friday and Saturday, with highs dropping into the 60s.
