MoWest Baseball Coach reflects on first wins, team
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Missouri Western State University Griffons baseball team took three out of four games against Concordia-St. Paul over the weekend. Earning a home-opening series victory and improving to 3 and 4.
Those results marked a personal milestone for new coach Michael Keeran as well. He earned his first win since taking the MoWest program’s reins this offseason and his first series victory as well.
“Feels good,” Keeran said. “You know, I’m really happy with our guys’ effort, and, you know, we have to play better, but it’s early in the season. I think early in the year, it’s always hard to win.”
The Griffons have shown up in a big way at the plate to start Keeran’s tenure, scoring better than eight runs per game on average.
Contrary to the traditional baseball belief that pitchers often start the season stronger than hitters do.
“Confidence is contagious, right?” said Keeran, “I think you’ve seen on both sides of the ball where offensively right now, when one guy has a good day it kind of spirals into a bunch of guys having a good day... Any time you can be balanced and tough to kill, it’s what you want offensively.”
Winners of three straight, dating back to game two of Friday’s double header, the Griffs will look to stay hot in a weekend series at home against St. Cloud State.
Game one from the Spring Sports Complex is slated for 2 p.m. Friday.
