MoWest senior transfer Mia Morel named MIAA Newcomer of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its major postseason award winners and All-MIAA teams for the 2025-26 women's basketball season, with Griffon Women's Basketball earning three all-conference selections and one major individual honor.

Senior transfer Mia Morel highlighted the group, being named MIAA Newcomer of the Year while also earning All-MIAA Second Team recognition after an outstanding first season in the Black and Gold.

Morel started all 28 games and averaged 17.1 points in 34.4 minutes per contest. She shot 38.6 percent from the field, including 36.2 percent (71-of-196) from three-point range, and 80.5 percent (91-of-113) at the free throw line. She added 4.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game, totaling 478 points, 116 rebounds and 102 assists during the regular season.

Her top outing came Jan. 17 vs Nebraska–Kearney, when she poured in a season-high 39 points on 13-of-18 shooting, including 7-of-8 from beyond the arc, while going 6-of-7 at the line.

Junior transfer Ana Oliveira Dias earned MIAA All-Defensive Team honors and All-MIAA Honorable Mention after a standout two-way campaign. She appeared in 27 games with 26 starts, averaging 13.2 points in 33.6 minutes per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor and 30.0 percent from three.

Oliveira Dias also averaged 4.3 rebounds and a team-best 5.1 assists per contest, finishing the season with 356 points, 117 rebounds and 139 assists. On the defensive end, she established herself as one of the league's top perimeter defenders, totaling 66 steals to average 2.4 per game. She recorded a game-high eight steals in a single contest and added a season-best 24-point performance in a regular-season matchup against No. 11 Concordia–St. Paul Golden Bears.

Junior transfer Nakiya Harris was named All-MIAA Honorable Mention following a strong and steady season in the post. Harris played in 28 games with 27 starts, averaging 12.1 points in 29.0 minutes per game. She shot 45.7 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from three-point range and 82.0 percent at the free throw line.

She anchored the glass for the Griffons, averaging 7.8 rebounds per game with 217 total boards, including 52 on the offensive end. Harris closed the regular season with 338 points, 49 assists, 37 steals and three blocks. Her season-high 22 points came twice against Central Oklahoma and at Newman and she grabbed a season-best 16 rebounds at Fort Hays State and at home versus Arkansas-Fort Smith.

The No. 7 seeded Griffon Women's Basketball team opens the MIAA Tournament and will face No. 10 seed Nebraska Kearney on Wednesday, March 4 at 2:15 p.m. inside Municipal Auditorium.
