City implements temporary school zone along Faraon Street to improve pedestrian safety

KQ2

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The City of St. Joseph said an area along Faraon Street will become a temporary school zone to improve pedestrian safety.

The designation will be along Faraon Street from Heartland Road to Riverside Road.

The announcement follows recent safety concerns about students crossing between Mosaic Life Care and the University of Missouri-Kansas City medical program facilities.

Foot traffic has also increased in the area as medical students travel between the hospital and academic buildings located across the street from one another. At the same time, vehicle speeds have also not consistently slowed for pedestrians, creating a potential safety hazard for those crossing the roadway.

The designation will remain in place while a proposal moves through the appropriate channels, first to the Traffic Commission and then to the City Council for consideration of a permanent school zone.

City officials encourage community members to call 816-271-5324 with any questions or to request additional information about the temporary designation.
