Temporary Stockyard road closures planned for railroad crossing repairs

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The City of St. Joseph, in coordination with Union Pacific Railroad, announced temporary road closures to allow for pavement approach repairs at a few railroad crossings in the Stockyards.

The closures will take place on Thursday, March 12, and Friday, March 13.

Motorists should expect detours and traffic control in the affected areas during work.

On March 12, City crews will conduct flagging operations at the railroad crossing located at Industrial Road and Lower Lake Road.

At the same time, the crossing at Lower Lake Road will be repaired and fully closed to traffic from Industrial Road to 1986 Lower Lake Road.

Westbound traffic will need to head south on Stockyards Expressway, west on Alabama Street and north on Industrial Road to Lower Lake Road

Eastbound traffic will need to head south on Industrial Road, east on Alabama Street and north on Stockyards Expressway.

On March 13, Bluff View Drive will be closed from Stockyards Expressway to Lower Lake Road to accommodate the continued crossing repairs.

Westbound Lower Lake Road traffic will need to head south on Stockyards Expressway, west on Alabama Street and north on Industrial Road to Lower Lake Road.

Eastbound Lower Lake Road traffic will need to head south on Industrial Road, east on Alabama Street and north on Stockyards Expressway.

The City said the project schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and the availability of materials.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area, follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time.
