St. Joseph Fire Department battles structure fire on Sylvanie Street Saturday afternoon

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Around 1:30 Saturday afternoon, the St. Joseph Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at 2217 Sylvanie Street.

According to the department, crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the back and side of the house.

An interior attack was initiated first to clear the house and search for residents.

After a primary search confirmed that no one was inside, multiple crews worked to extinguish the fire.

The street was blocked off as crews sprayed water on the home in an attempt to put out the blaze.

The family residing in the home was not there at the time, and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The Red Cross has been notified about the displaced family to assist as needed.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
