BBBS St. Joseph hosts annual auction
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Supporters filled the third floor of the inspireU Children's Discovery Center downtown on Saturday night to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Joseph.
Funds for the program were raised through the evening's silent auction, live music, food, and additional activities for attendees.
The silent auction is a favorite amongst many, including the program director, Cheyenne Dorrell-Giles.
"I can't look at the silent auction items, or I will spend too much money on them, but there's a really cool guitar, and there's a lot of really great experiences this year," Giles said.
Along with the fun were this year's honorees, which included Ryan and Ann Rush, Kelly Crawford, Rayna Vogan, Jennifer Brown, Christy Rippe, and KQ2's Hometown This Morning Anchor and Miss Missouri, Courtney Rowe.
"We've had great groups of honorees every year, but every year, the honorees bring something different to the table. And so it's just fun to see what they come up with, their connections, and the generosity of the community and their friends," Giles shared. "They have to be for listening sisters. So it's always fun to see new people, different connections, and for more people to hear about our program."
The director also shared that even if someone missed the night of fun and still wants to help, there's always a chance to assist their program.
"We're always looking for volunteer mentors. We have a lot of littles on our waiting list, and so that's something they can always do, and we are always business sponsors, individual donors," the director told KQ2. "It's the community that keeps us going, that's how we're able to operate. From our legends to our volunteers are literally our best assets. So there's so much that anyone can do to help.
