Community organizations kick off Corridor Project

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Midtown Initiative teamed up with the Joseph Company to begin work on a historic midtown Corridor Project.

The project is designed to connect two major community assets, the Bartlett Gymnasium and the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion.

The groups hosted a neighborhood trash pickup that stretched a nine by nine block radius in Midtown St. Joseph.

Leading the charge was Midtown Initiative President, Gary Wilkinson.

"One of the things that St. Joseph has been trying to work on is getting their infrastructure up to code," Wilkinson said. "So we're helping out with this project."

Several businesses were involved in the pickup through a hands-on training.

"Well the 3D training is about advancing the city," said Mark Pettit, St. Joseph Parks assistant director. "What we can do as a city to come together with common goals, and build the city, and make it a destination that people wanna come to."

The volunteers that were on-site left several door hangers on residents doors with a QR code that holds information about the Midtown Initiative's plan for the finished product of the project.

Some of the changes would bring new sidewalks, replacing trees where needed and improved driveway approaches.
