St. Joseph Public Library to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with history-themed programs

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Public Library will celebrate 250 years of American history with programs taking place throughout the summer.

One of the free America 250 programs will feature host author and speaker Dorinda Nicholson, whose family lived near the tip of the Pearl City Peninsula, only a few hundred yards from the USS Utah, the first ship to be attacked at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Nicholson's book Pearl Harbor Child: A Child’s View of Pearl Harbor from Attack to Peace gives a childhood perspective on the bombing and the war.

Nicholson will speak at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at The East Hills Library, located at 502 N. Woodbine Road.

The library's website also features descriptions of the other America 250 programs.

Anyone with information or questions is encouraged to call Elizabeth Murray at 816-236-2136.

Persons with disabilities who wish to participate in the program should contact the ADA coordinator at 816-232-4038.
