GreenPal app connects homeowners with local lawn care services
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- A Nashville-based app, GreenPal, which connects homeowners with local lawn care professionals, launched its services in St. Joseph.
The app will allow homeowners to enter their address, lawn details and preferred service date.
Local, pre-screened lawn care professionals will then review the property using Google aerial imagery and Google Street View.
Gene Cabalero, Co-founder of GreenPal said this app has been described as the “Uber-for-lawn-care".
“It is the easiest way to find scheduled law guys and we are excited to be able to provide home owners with on-demand lawn care,” he said.
The app officially launched on May 27. Homeowners can request lawn care services by visiting the company’s website or downloading the free app.
Once a request is submitted, lawn care providers in the area receive an alert about a new property is available for bidding.
“Those vendors bid on the property based on the google-street view or google area view and their square footage and the bid goes to the homeowners for view,” Cabalero said.
Homeowners can compare prices, read reviews, check ratings and choose the provider which best fits their needs.
According to Caballero, the biggest advantage is convenience.
Dana Campbell, a St. Joseph homeowner who has lived in her home for several years, said she currently uses a different lawn care company and has been very pleased with the service.
“They mow our lawns at least once a week for us and take care of all the other lawn care and it is very important because we have always enjoyed having a nice lawn,” she said.
Campbell, who lives on Lovers Lane, said many residents in the neighborhood take pride in maintaining their properties, especially because of the area's attractive parkways and landscaping.
While she’s satisfied with her current provider, Campbell believes an app-based service could appeal to others.
“Its always a convenience aspect so maybe that can be a really convenient option for some people so I guess I am not surprised that there is a lawn-mowing app too,” she added.
Another homeowner, Peggy Martin, said she has lived in her home for 27 years and typically has her lawn serviced once a week.
She said she used to handle the work herself but eventually realized professional lawn care companies could provide more comprehensive services.
“They do a lot of the weed prevention and fertilizing and all of that so we decided to use them instead,” Martin said.
Martin added that regular lawn maintenance helps keep the property looking its best and can also help preserve home values.
Although she has used apps to find other home services, she has never used one specifically for lawn care.
“We use a lot of the google apps to see if we would want some kind of home service or building or whatever construction, a lot of the things we do ourselves but in past we have also found people who do plumbing or roofing,” martin said.
Cabalero said they regularly analyze customer demand and expansion opportunities. After noticing growing interest in the St. Joseph market, they decided to launch the service there sooner rather than later.
Homeowners can visit GreenPal’s website or download the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Cabalero said can begin receiving bids from local lawn care providers within minutes of entering their address.
