Suspect charged in Smithville shooting that killed 1, injured another

SMITHVILLE, Mo. (KQTV) -- One person is dead, and another is injured following a shooting in Smithville, Missouri, Tuesday evening.

At approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Smithville Police Department responded to a shots-fired report at a residence on Sunflower Street in the northern part of the city.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the caller, who stated they had heard a loud noise coming from a neighboring residence. The caller also stated they had discovered a potential bullet hole inside a bedroom.

Officers then responded to the neighboring residence, where they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the second was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Kevin C. Andrew, 40, was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Clay County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson said the court alleges Andrew was involved in the shooting death of a Smithville man and his mother.

The department is leading the investigation with assistance from the Kansas City Police Department.

The investigation is active and the department said additional information will be released when appropriate.
