Chiefs return to St. Joseph for the first day of Training Camp  

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- Missouri Western State University officially welcomed the Kansas City Chiefs back to St. Joseph on the first day of training camp with a news conference held before practice in partnership with Mosaic Life Care. 

Representatives from Missouri Western and Mosaic Life Care spoke about the start of camp and answered questions about this year's training camp activities. 

Interim Missouri Western President Patt Lilly highlighted the university's role as an applied learning institution, noting how training camp provides valuable opportunities for students. 

“They come here to work with the first class organization like the Chief’s and I can’t think of a better internship,” he said.  

Lilly said hosting training camp has always been a community effort, with the City of St. Joseph, Buchanan County, the Chamber of Commerce, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Mosaic Life Care all playing a role since the beginning. 

Mike Poore, CEO of Mosaic Life Care, said the organization is excited to welcome football back to St. Joseph and is happy to have the Chiefs and Chiefs Kingdom back for another training camp.  

“We are here to take care of them with our Mosaic Life Care caregivers as an organization. We are very proud that we are working to build something sustainable just like the Chief’s,” Poore said.  

Poore joked that while Mosaic Life Care doesn't get a trophy like the Chiefs, its team shows up every day with the same commitment to serving the community. 

He said Mosaic is looking forward to another successful training camp and hopes it leads to a great season for the Chiefs. 

Chiefs President Mark Donovan also thanked Mosaic Life Care and the St. Joseph community for their continued support and the energy they bring to training camp each year.  

“Kicking off today, it is the season ticket holder’s day, something we are very proud of and excited for,” Donovan said.  

Donovan said it will be a busy summer for both the Kansas City region and the Chiefs organization as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 

Some fans were just as excited as the players, eager for the start of a new season as training camp officially got underway. 

C.J. Burks of Liberty, Missouri, said it's her favorite player is a tie between Chris Jones and Patrick Mahomes.  

“I am looking forward to see what Walker can do this season. We are also season ticket holders and we can’t for it to start,” Burks said.  

She is hoping the Chiefs to have another great season and win.  

Cindy Moyer from Kansas City, who is also a season ticket holder, said her favorite player would have to be Patrick Mahomes. 

She is hoping for another Super Bowl season this year, and said the reason she wanted to come out for the first day of practice was because of her grandkids.  

“My grandkids love the pancake breakfast so we have to come every year for pancakes,” Moyer said.  

Fernando Andrade, another fan from Kansas City, said the first day of practice was exciting after a long summer without football. 

His favorite players are Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, and he hopes to see them back again this season.  

“They are the engine of the team you know those guys are all great players, but they are the engine who are the mud of the whole defense and offense,” he said.  

One thing he wants the team to remember is to have fun, because when they are having fun, they play their best football.
