Autographs, optimism and Chiefs pride fill day 3 of training camp  

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- As day three of Chiefs training camp got underway, excitement filled the air as fans lined up, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite players—and maybe even walk away with an autograph. 

For St. Joseph native Tyson Johnson, the trip to training camp is all about seeing wide receiver Xavier Worthy again. 

Worthy already signed Johnson’s jersey last year, but Johnson said he’s back hoping for another memorable interaction.  

“I made a terrible mistake, when I met him for the first time, I accidentally said “you are my biggest fan,” when i meant to say I am your biggest fan,” Johnson laughed.  

This year, Johnson is hoping to meet quarterback Patrick Mahomes and snap a photo with him. As for the season ahead, he’s optimistic about what the Chiefs can accomplish. 

He also had a message for Worthy.  

“I am your biggest fan Worthy. Have a great season and please stay healthy. You’re the greatest,” he said.  

For Rachel Meyer of Virginia Beach, Virginia, training camp is a brand-new experience. 

She joked how she became an honorary Chiefs fan because of the love story between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.  

This was her first visit to St. Joseph and she said she already loved the atmosphere.  

“Love the environment and love Kansas city so I here I am. I always loved trying new things and I went to my first game last year,” Meyer said.  

While she’s mainly soaking in the experience, Meyer said she’ll definitely be trying to get Kelce’s autograph if she gets the chance. 

She’s also excited to see how the team looks with its new additions. 

“Patrick being back of course so we are crossing our fingers that he stays healthy because that’s so important to me,” she added.  

Meyer has high expectations for the Chiefs this season and believes the team’s new additions will help improve on last year’s performance. 

Bailey Anderson of Iowa City, Iowa, is no stranger to Chiefs training camp. 

“Nothing like the Chiefs kingdom. You gotta experience it. The experience has been great. We did shopping, we met KC Wolf and now we are ready to see some camp,” she said.  

This year, Anderson is looking forward to watching Mahomes connect with his targets while getting a first look at the team’s newest players.  

Like many fans, she’s also hoping to collect a few autographs—especially from Mahomes or Kelce. 

She’s hoping this season will be a bounce-back year with a few more wins and stronger performances on the field.  

“I hope they have fun and enjoy and getting ready for the season and getting pumped up. We are excited to see you as much as you are excited to see us,” she said.  

Longtime Chiefs fan Phil Smith of St. Joseph has been a season ticket holder for 34 years and is attending training camp for the 16th time. 

Over the years, he’s had several chances to see Mahomes up close, but he said he’s never one to push his way to the front for an autograph.  

“Normally I let the kids go first and try not to get in there so the kids could get in there. If I get one it will be fine, if not, I will let the kids get that first,” Smith said.  

Smith said he’s especially interested in watching the rookies, the offensive tackles and the receivers the Chiefs brought in this offseason. 

For him, training camp is the perfect chance to get a feel for the team’s potential and see which players make the final roster before the season begins.
