Ancient Order of Hibernians gives back to St. Joseph community in memory of Devin Delaney  

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- The Ancient Order of Hibernians donates money each year to the Samaritan Counseling Center in memory of Devin Delaney, helping community members who are struggling with addiction or other mental health issues. 

“A lot of our patients didn’t have money and we use this money that they donate towards people who don’t have money and otherwise may not be able to get care,” said MD Robert Corder.

Corder said that anytime they can help people struggling with addiction, it benefits the entire community by helping get people off the streets and back on their feet. 

Dennis Delaney, president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians chapter in St. Joseph, said the men’s group holds several fundraisers throughout the year.  

The money raised is donated to local organizations, including the Samaritan Counseling Center, Second Harvest, Catholic education programs and others.  

“Every penny goes back into the community. It’s very fulfilling and very rewarding to be able to raise this money and keep it here locally,” he said.  

The annual donation has an even more personal meaning for the group because Devin Delaney, Dennis’ son, was not only a patient at the Samaritan Counseling Center but also volunteered there, spending time helping others through the organization. 

"Knowing Devin gave his time to help others makes the group’s continued support of the center even more meaningful," Delaney said.
