Suspect in Carroll County double homicide found dead

DECATUR, Ill. (KQTV) -- The suspect allegedly involved in a double homicide in Carroll County was found dead nearly three days later in Illinois.

On Aug. 26, the Missouri Rural Major Case Squad and the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control collaborated with members of the United States Marshals Service (USMS) and the Decatur, Illinois, Police Department (DPD) in an effort to apprehend the suspect.

Ryan A. Munson, 48, of Carrollton, Missouri, had an active arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in a double homicide at a home near the intersection of Route MM and County Road 250 in rural Carroll County.

Munson fled the scene and was headed toward western Illinois.

MSHP said information was developed indicating Munson was hiding at a property located within the 700 block of North 33rd Street in Decatur.

USMS and area law enforcement officers attempted to contact Munson, who was believed to be hiding in a recreational vehicle (RV) parked on the premises.

According to MSHP, at approximately 3:55 p.m., Munson was found dead inside the RV from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

MSHP said next of kin has been notified and an autopsy is pending.

DCD's investigation into Munson's death is ongoing. The homicide investigation in Carroll County also remains active.

MSHP said to maintain the integrity of both investigations, further details are not being released at this time.
