Tracking an active week with multiple days of rain expected

An active weather pattern is expected across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas this week, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms bringing the potential for heavy rain, severe weather and flooding.

The first round of storms is moving through Monday morning. The overall severe weather threat is low, but the strongest storms could produce hail up to 1 inch and locally heavy rainfall.

Another round of storms could develop Monday afternoon and evening, particularly across northwest Missouri. The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the area under a Slight Risk for severe weather. If storms develop, large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Storm chances will continue Tuesday. A Marginal Risk for severe weather is in place Tuesday afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts and hail the primary concerns.

The greatest concern later Tuesday into Tuesday night will be heavy rainfall and flooding, especially across northern Missouri. Widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts where storms repeatedly move over the same areas.

With several rounds of rain and storms expected, flooding could become an increasing concern through the middle to later part of the work week, particularly north of the Missouri River.

Residents across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas should remain weather aware and be prepared for changing conditions, especially if traveling during periods of heavy rain or thunderstorms.
