ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- United Way of Greater St. Joseph is looking for volunteers to help local students build their reading skills this fall through its United Way Reading Adventure program.

The program partners with Bessie Ellison, Edison, Oak Grove, Parkway, Pickett and Robidoux elementary schools to connect students with reading volunteers during the first semester.

Volunteers are needed in November and December, and there are several ways to get involved.

Volunteers can read with students just once, a few times or commit to a regular schedule. Each school’s program takes place at a different time.

Students in the program also receive books to take home and encourage reading outside the classroom.

United Way Reading Adventure helps students strengthen their reading skills throughout the school year and maintain those skills over the summer when school is out.

Individuals and organizations interested in volunteering or donating books can contact Jodi Flurry at 816-364-2381 or jodiflurry@stjosephunitedway.org. Volunteers can also sign up online at stjosephunitedway.org/pie.
