Senate Bill 1002 sets school board elections and terms starting 2028

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Under Senate Bill 1002, school board member elections will take place either on the general municipal election day or on a date set by the county charter.

The bill was passed through the Senate Education Committee in early February.

The length of a school board member’s term will vary by district, ranging from three to six years.

The changes outlined in this act won’t go into effect right away—the effective date is Jan. 1, 2028.
