FOTAS hosts annual fundraising event, proceeds to go toward new shelter

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph is hosting its 12th annual Run/Walk for the Paws 5k.

The race is one of the many events that the animal shelter hosts to help raise funds for their services. It's being organized by FOTAS volunteer, Aubrey Swofford.

"Last year was a record year with a little over 500 participants," Swofford said. "I think we raised about $17,000 last year, so we would love to keep that growing."

The 5k will be one of the last fundraising events that the shelter hosts before they move to their new home on the South Belt Highway.

"It's gonna be a much better facility," Swofford said. "Much better space for our animals and all of that."

Participants who register by Wednesday will receive a free event T-Shirt. Registration is held at runsignup.com/runforpaws.

The 5k will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 11 across from Bode Ice Arena, located at 2500 Southwest Parkway.
