ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph City Council is set to meet on Monday, April 27 at City Hall, where they’ll be discussing several important items.

One of the main topics is an ordinance related to the City’s sanitary landfill. Council members will consider committing nearly $19.9 million to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to cover financial assurance for long-term closure and post-closure costs.

This plan also includes using additional property and expanding the landfill vertically.

They’ll also look at a smaller budget amendment for the St. Joseph Fire Department—about $16,119—to help cover expenses, including the purchase of a thermal imaging bundle from Heiman Fire Equipment for roughly $7,250.

Another item on the agenda involves shifting funds within the police sales tax budget for the 2026 Fiscal Year.

City Council members will consider entering into a five-year, $93,000 agreement to install a battery backup system and provide ongoing warranty services for the city’s communication center.
