United Way distributing fans to help community members stay cool over the summer

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The United Way of Greater St. Joseph recently approved the purchase of fans to distribute throughout the community in an effort to keep residents cool over the summer.

Fans will be available at four locations:

  • United Way of Greater St. Joseph | 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
    • 118 South 5th St. | 816-364-2381
  • InterServ | 1 p.m to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday through Wednesday
    • 5400 King Hill Ave. | 816-238-4511
  • Northwest Missouri Community Services | 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
    • 1203 North 6th St. | 816-364-1131
  • Salvation Army as of June 1 | 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday
    • 602 Messanie St. | 816-232-5824

Excessive heat can be uncomfortable, but it can also cause negative impacts on physical, psychological and behavioral health.

According to a news release from United Way, research and studies show correlations between rises in domestic violence, stress and health-related conditions due to excessive heat.
