WASHINGTON (KQTV) -- U.S. Central Command said its forces began launching self-defense strikes against Iran on Tuesday in response to a helicopter downing Monday.

Strikes began around 5 p.m. ET Tuesday.

The strikes are in response to the shootdown of a U.S. Apache Helicopter on Monday near Oman.

Two members of the Apache were rescued and were not hurt.

"The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression," a post on X said.
