NODAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- A Skidmore, Missouri man facing two counts of first-degree murder has requested a change of venue for his court case.

According to court documents, Keevin Maupin's attorney filed a motion for a change of venue under Missouri Supreme Court Rule 32.03.

The rule permits a criminal defendant in a county with 75,000 residents or less to request a change of venue as a matter of right.

Among the reasons listed in the request include the public attention and media coverage the case has received in Nodaway County and with Maupin's longstanding ties to Nodaway County, a number of potential jurors may know him, his family or the allegations in the case.

Maupin has been charged with two felony counts of first-degree murder and two felony counts of armed criminal action stemming from an incident on April 19 just north of Skidmore.
