Community members rally around Plattsburg family impacted by weekend fire

PLATTSBURG, Mo. (KQTV) -- Community members are rallying behind a family who lost their home in a Plattsburg fire over the weekend.

Fire crews responded to a structure fire around 12:31 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Broadway Street.

No one was inside the home, but two first responders were injured as they tried to put out the flames. However, both responders were transported to local hospitals, treated and released Saturday evening.

Now, the Plattsburg community is looking for items to help a family of six get back on their feet.

Community members are collecting clothes, shoes, toys, games, books and more for the family's four kids.

The mom is a preschool teacher and lost all of her classroom supplies, while dad coaches multiple sports throughout the community.

Plattsburg community member Kayla Edwards said she is accepting donations at her residence, located at 307 N. 3rd St. in Plattsburg.

The First Baptist Church of Plattsburg is also helping spread the word with different ways to donate.

The family is in need of:

• Boys' clothes 14/16 and men's 6.5/7 shoes
• Boys' 6/7 clothing and size 2 shoes
• Girls' size 8 clothing and size 3 shoes
• Girls' size 4t/5t clothing and child-sized 8 shoes
• Men's size large clothing and size 11 shoes
• Women's size medium/large clothing and size 7 shoes

A GoFundMe has also been set up for the family, where over $6,800 out of a $10,000 goal has already been raised as of Monday morning.
