Harrison County Sheriff identifies pilot involved in crash near Bethany

HARRISON COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Harrison County Sheriff's Office released the identification of a single-engine aircraft pilot who died in a crash Tuesday.

William M. Anderson, the 73-year-old pilot of the Piper PA-24 Comanche aircraft, was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Office said flight information indicates that Anderson took off at 4:39 p.m. Tuesday from Peoria, Illinois, with an unknown destination.

Anderson then crashed into a field north of Bethany, Missouri, around 6:53 p.m.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Office said the cause of the crash is still undetermined and is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
