ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- Community members are invited to attend an informational meeting about a proposed Energy Center in Buchanan County's Bluffs.

The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 500 S. Fourth St. in Gower, Mo.

Attendees will learn more about the process moving forward, the entities involved and what the proposal could mean for the community.

There will also be a question-and-answer session, giving residents an opportunity to ask questions and share their concerns.

The meeting is being hosted by a group of concerned community members who want to help preserve the integrity of the rural community.

The meeting comes following community concerns about Evergy's plan to build a potential natural gas-fired electric generating facility.

The site would be known as the Buchanan County Bluffs Energy Center Unit 2, which will be located at SE State Route E, South of Highway 169, just west of Gower, Missouri.

The Energy Center is also expected to be built by 2032 and would serve both Kansas and Missouri. It will include a 710-megawatt combined-cycle gas turbine electric generating plant. There will be two units on site, one to serve the separate states.
