ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Tate Henry is the founder of Wigsy, an online marketplace and community for women who wear wigs.

The idea came from watching his mom deal with hair loss and seeing how expensive wigs could be. Wanting to help her find the best wig possible, Henry came up with the idea for Wigsy.

“Everyone on there buys and resells their own wigs. It’s a huge market and we also sell our own wigs, so we manufacture and send them out to people,” he said.

Henry said his mom began experiencing hair loss because of thyroid problems and other health issues. After hearing her frustrations with the wig industry, he knew he wanted to make things easier for her and others going through similar experiences.

“I just came up with the idea of making an online market place kind of to prevent scammers and have like a place for it to be all in one app,” he added.

The app has been up and running for nearly six months, with a mission to build trust and confidence in the wig marketplace.

They have also worked with 20 plus influencers.

“We verify all the buyers and sellers and also they can just download the app and hop on there and they will be able to find any kind of brand or wig or link or anything like that,” he said.

Wig prices on the platform range from about $15 to $700, depending on the style and what customers are looking for.

Henry’s mom also hopes to attend school soon to learn more about wig fitting. Eventually, they would love to open a storefront and sell their own wigs.

The app is quickly gaining traction, with the team approaching 1,000 users and receiving nearly 10 messages a day from people interested in signing up or finding a wig.

For Henry, it’s about more than just buying and selling wigs.

“Just having women be able to find everything in one place. We sell our wigs and we also have the buy and resell marketplace but also we sell accessories and help people find confidence,” Henry said.

Those interested can download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. For more information, they can also reach out by email at wigsysupport@gmail.com.
